Benefits of device

  • Visualization of internal structures
  • Precise 3D measurement
  • Non-destructive analysis
  • Detailed imaging

Description

Computed Tomography (CT) is a non-destructive testing (NDT) method for analyzing samples and serves as a key tool for non-destructive evaluation (NDE). It is increasingly replacing traditional destructive sectioning methods.

Computed tomography has gone beyond the conventional boundaries of non-destructive testing. The CT technology used in industrial scanners is tailored to a wide range of industries.

It is a radiological method that uses X-rays to visualize both internal and external structures.

Over time, industrial computed tomography is playing an increasingly important role as a measurement tool. Compared to tactile or optical systems, its advantage lies in capturing data comprehensively and non-destructively.

System applications

  • Nominal-to-actual comparison – Deviations from the CAD model are visualized through color mapping.
  • Dimensional inspection – A single scan enables precise measurement of complex internal and external features.
  • Electronic testing – Defects in electronic components, such as PCBs or batteries, can be quickly identified using X-ray imaging.
  • Joint inspection – One scan reveals whether welded, soldered, glued, or riveted joints are truly defect-free.
  • Wall thickness analysis
  • Structural analysis – 3D structural characterization provides valuable insight through high-resolution X-ray microscopy.
  • 4D analysis – Material behavior under external influences and over time can be analyzed using 4D techniques.
  • Fiber composite analysis – Fiber composite analysis visualizes the 3D distribution and orientation of individual elements within the composite material.
  • Grain size and distribution analysis – Grain size and distribution are critical factors in determining hardness and strength, making them essential to analyze.
